First minister sends out image of her drafting Section 30 letter
Nicola Sturgeon’s letter, to be released on Friday, will request the UK Government for section 30 powers under the Scotland Act.
The transfer of these powers will enable Holyrood to stage an independence referendum in 2018 / 2019.
The FM has said that the mandate for another vote was now ‘beyond question’ and said it would be ‘democratically indefensible and utterly unsustainable’ for the UK Government in Westminster to stand in the way.
The UK Government have said they will block the request until after Brexit negotiations are complete saying "now is not the time".col02
